Sticksstatelydude was withdrawn from the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) the morning of Oct. 26 after developing a strained tendon.

Trainer Greg Burchell said the 2-year-old son of First Dude   returned from his Oct. 23 half-mile work in :47 1/5 at Keeneland with some heat in the tendon and an ultrasound exam revealed "what could be the start of a little bit of a problem on the lateral part of the tendon. It's not a bow though, and it's not career-threatening."

Owned by the Estate of Alvin Haynes, John Ferris, Brad Ward, and Pack Pride Racing, Sticksstatelydude  finished fourth in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (gr. I) at Keeneland Oct. 3. Bred in Virginia by Canyon Lake Thoroughbreds, the colt cost $40,000 when purchased by Old Friends Stable from the Crossroads consignment to the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale.

After breaking his maiden at Saratoga Race Course in his second start, Sticksstatelydude was scratched from the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) after spiking a temperature.

"More than likely he would be OK to run, but you would be taking a chance and he is too nice of a colt to do that," Burchell said. "We'll stop and go to work on him and come back next year.

"I hate it for everyone involved. He's as good right now as he has ever been. So it's too bad, because we're all from here. But we know the ups and downs of this business."
