For the seventh consecutive year, Thoroughbred aftercare organization New Vocations is holding its annual Breeders’ Cup pledge giving Breeders’ Cup participants a chance to donate part of their 2015 Breeders’ Cup earnings to the program’s horses.
So far, the pledge has raised $270,000 combined in its six previous years with 12 owners or trainers already pledging for the 2015 Breeders’ Cup. Connections are able to join the pledge until Thursday, Oct. 29, with the Breeders’ Cup races taking place on Oct. 30 and 31 at Keeneland Race Course.
“To have a horse in the Breeders’ Cup is a huge accomplishment and a perfect time to consider giving back,” said Anna Ford, New Vocations’ Thoroughbred Program Director. “Our slogan for the Pledge is ‘Today's champions running for yesterday's stars.’ The purses in the BC are very large so giving back a small percentage can actually make a big difference. It's a win-win for all involved. Funding raised goes directly to support New Vocation's mission to rehab, retrain and rehome retired racehorses.”
This year, one of the horses helped by the pledge actually used to be a Breeders’ Cup runner. Majestic Stride, who finished fourth in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Sprint will be going up for adoption in the next few weeks.
MAJESTIC STRIDE

“Majestic Stride has be a perfect gentleman since he shipped all the way from California to be with us.  He has transitioned well and seems to really enjoy learning a second career. He has been ridden around the farm, schooled in the arena and has even started over jumps.  He should be suitable for a lot of different disciplines.  It will simply be a matter of finding the right match for him,” Ford said of the horse.
