Breeders' Cup announced early Oct. 30 that two horses have been scratched from grade I races on the Oct. 31 World Championships card at Keeneland.
Wertheimer et Frere's Bawina, trained by Carlos Laffon Parias, has been scratched from Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT). The 4-year-old daughter of Dubawi got tied up behind after exercise the morning of Oct. 28 and though she showed improvement when trotting on the training track the following morning, the trainer decided to scratch her after consulting with veterinarians at the quarantine barn.
The scratch allows Talmada, owned by Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum and trained by Roger Varian, to daw in from the also-eligible list and race Saturday. The daughter of Cape Cross comes into the race after finishing second in the E.P. Taylor Stakes (Can-IT) at Woodbine in her latest start.
Charles Fipke's Tale of S'avall has been declared from the $2 million Sentient Jet Juvenile (gr. I), allowing for Gabe Grossberg's Siding Spring to draw into the race and break from the far outside post 14.
"He has been having a problem with sore 'frogs' in his feet," trainer Barclay Tagg said. "We've been working on the problem all week but the vets recommend that he not run Saturday. He'll be all right going ahead."
