Shotgun Kowboy clocked a half-mile in :48.78 under jockey Cliff Berry, who will be aboard in the Clark.
"He's on a schedule and we needed to work him this morning, even though it was a muddy track," said trainer C.R. Trout, also the owner and breeder of the
Kodiak Kowboy gelding. "We needed to see how he liked it. He handled it well and wasn't breathing hard when he came off the track. We've got him ready."
Trout is pleased and somewhat amazed by his runner, who is out of the Siphon mare Shotgun Jane.
"All I do is feed him," he said of Shotgun Kowboy, who will aim for his first grade I win. "I'm as confident in this horse as I've ever been with any of my horses. There will be some big horses for the Clark, but he deserves the opportunity and I think he'll hold his own."
Shotgun Kowboy is scheduled to have two more workouts at Remington before shipping to Louisville.
Trout mentioned he will have a five-furlong workout then another half-mile breeze before loading onto a van bound for Churchill. All eight of Shotgun Kowboy's career starts have taken place in Oklahoma City. He has a 6-1-1 career line and more than $585,000 in career earnings.
