Mares in Foal to Tapit Top at Keeneland

Hip 28, Colonial Flag was purchased by Reynolds Bell for $1.6 Million.
Two mares in foal to Tapit were the first to seven figures during the early portion of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale Nov. 2, with Colonial Flag going for $1.6 million and Comedy bringing $1.5 million.
Consigned by Lane's End as Hip 28, the 6-year-old Pleasant Tap mare Colonial Flag was purchased by Reynolds Bell, agent for Jon Clay's Alpha Delta Stable. The mare earned $312,463 and won the 2012 Ontario Colleen Stakes (Can-III) and is a half sister to Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) winner Shared Account.
"She's a quality mare, and quality mares bring about what you expect," Bell said. "He (Clay) continues to try to buy mares at this level. he's a commercial breeder, and he races out of them some, too. She fit what he was looking for. She obviously had ability on the racetrack and is from a good family, a half sister to a Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner and in foal to Tapit."
Clay has about 15 mares split between Lane's End and Mill Ridge, Bell said.
Bred in Kentucky by Catherine J. Parke, Colonial Flag was purchased by Skara Glen Stables for $475,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Comedy, an 11-year-old winning daughter of Theatrical who is the dam of grade II winner Taris, was purchased by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings from the Select Sales consignment. Taris finished third in the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Keeneland over the weekend.
Bred by Claiborne Farm and Adele Delschneider, Comedy had been purchased by Mike Schiara Di Cola for $24,000 from the Claiborne consignment to the 2012 Keeneland November sale while in foal to Flatter, also the sire of 4-year-old filly Taris.
