Champion Shared Belief returned to the track at Golden Gate Fields on Nov. 5, jogging leisurely as he prepares to come back from an injury he suffered in April.
At approximately 6:20 a.m. PT, Shared Belief set foot on the Golden Gate main track, pausing momentarily before proceeding to jog in the clockwise direction while being accompanied by a pony. The 4-year-old jogged from the gap at the seven-eighths pole to the six-furlong chute on the backstretch.
It was the first time Shared Belief, by Candy Ride , had trained at Golden Gate since fracturing his hip in the Charles Town Classic (gr. II) in April. He had been in light training at the Pegasus Training and Rehabilitation Center in Redmond, Wash., since mid-September before arriving at Golden Gate at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday.
"It went perfectly," said Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. "He's very happy. It seems like he's happy to be back."
Hollendorfer said he has no timetable for when he'll start to ramp up Shared Belief's training.
"We're going to go really slowly with him," said Hollendorfer.
Shared Belief, the 2013 champion 2-year-old male, has won 10 of 12 lifetime starts, including five grade I wins, and has earned $2.9 million.
