Cheyenne Stables and Mac Nichol's dual grade II winner Madefromlucky seeks a rebound from his seventh in the Sept. 19 Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II) Nov. 11, heading the $150,000 Discovery Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Highweight in a group of seven 3-year-olds at 122 pounds, the winner of the Aug. 1 West Virginia Derby (gr. II) and May 9 Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) will make his first appearance at the "Big A" for trainer Todd Pletcher. The Lookin At Lucky colt drew the rail for the 1 1/8-mile test and departs with Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez in the irons.
Pletcher also has graded stakes-placed Tommy Macho chasing his first win since June. Paul Pompa Jr. and All American Horses' Macho Uno colt was third in the Pennyslvania Derby and third in the Dwyer Stakes (gr. III), with a seventh in the West Virginia Derby in between. Javier Castellano rides from post 6.
Ocean Knight is the only other graded winner in the field; he took the Sam F. Davis (gr. III) for Stonestreet Stables and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin in January, then went to the sidelines after a seventh in the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. II). Back with two starts since then, the Curlin colt returned to winning ways Oct. 9 in a one-mile Belmont Park allowance which he took by a game head.
Irad Ortiz Jr. rides Ocean Knight from post 2, he is second-highest in the weights under a 119-pound impost.
Arnold Zetcher's Smart Transition is a stakes winner with graded experience, but he also must rebound—from a sixth in the Aug. 29 Travers Stakes (gr. I) in his latest start. Prior to that, the John Shirreffs trainee won the Curlin Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
Allowance winners Made in Detroit, Total Joint, and First Spark complete the field.
