Stonestreet Stables' homebred La Appassionata will be chasing her first graded win Nov. 21 in the $400,000 Delta Downs Princess Stakes (gr. III) at Delta Downs, as the runners she easily conquered last out face her for another try.
In the Oct. 23 My Trusty Cat Stakes at the Louisiana oval, the 2-year-old Bernardini filly ran away from the field to win the seven furlong test by seven lengths. It was her second run for trainer Steve Asmussen; she won a maiden special going six furlongs at Churchill Downs at first asking by 4 1/2 lengths.
Undefeated La Appassionata, who is out of the graded stakes winner Midnight Sonata, leaves post 6 in a seven-horse field with Gerard Melancon in the irons as she stretches out to a mile.
Brittlyn Stables' Above Fashion and Carl R. Moore Management's Jet Black Magic, the 2-3 finishers from the My Trusty Cat, come back to take on the 3-5 favorite in this spot.
Completing the field are recent allowance winners Angelita and Shesthewinner, along with maiden winner Charlie's Pal and the maiden Learning Curve.
The Delta Downs Princess is a race on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks, awarding the winner 10 points toward a place in the 2016 Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) starting gate, with points of 4-2-1 going to the second, third, and fourth-place finishers.
