For one lucky handicapper, a Pick 6 Jackpot at Golden Gate Fields paid for a festive Thanksgiving celebration complete with a giant-sized turkey stuffed with gold bars.
Lobster, caviar and a case of Dom Perignon could have been added to menu as well as the holder of a single winning ticket on the Nov. 21 Pick 6 Jackpot turned a 20-cent wager into a $149,231.76 payday.
Fueled by a carryover of $101,423, the huge payoff was sent in motion when that savvy handicapper somehow kept his ticket alive through the first two races that saw one likely winner in Giant Warrior ($9.20) and one utterly improbable longshot in Summer Story ($115.20).
The sequence continued with Claudia Mae ($10.40), Ship Mast ($21.80) and then the favored Matty’s Tribal ($6.20) before 4-1 shot Omdurman ($10.60) turned that one winning ticket into a payoff that busted open the bank.

Remington Park also served up a huge helping of cash as the Pick 4 on Nov. 19 returned a ritzy $39,227.25 for a 50-cent wager.
The winning combination was certainly challenging as it started with Cutacorner ($8.60), the 3-1 second-choice, and then closed out with a trio of $20 winners, Just Fred ($24.20), Woodmans Luck ($28.60) and Killer Party ($27).
Churchill Downs did its part to give some its patrons a festive holiday with gargantuan Pick 5 and superfecta payoffs.
On Nov. 18, a Pick 5 that included two odds-on winners nonetheless managed to generate a $32,851.45 payday.
Even with A. Rod Again ($3.80) taking the seventh race and Kitten’s Top Cat ($4.20) triumphing in the 10th and final race, wins by Eton Ridge ($39.80), Malibubu ($14.40) and Cha Mono ($42.20) pushed the return into the stratosphere.
The superfecta in the third race on Nov. 19 was also extremely lucrative for handicappers who solved a tough riddle.
For starters, you need to believe that 19-1 shot Oh Oz ($41.60) could win the race. Then you needed to have Tizmatized, an Indiana Grand shipper sent off at 49-1 odds, in the second spot. To close out the ticket, you need 5-1 shot Sun and Sand and 2-1 favorite Ready by You.
If you had those four horses in the right order, you could pass “Go” and head to Park Ave. where a payoff of $30,447.90 for a $1 ticket or $3,044 for each 10-cent ticket was waiting for you.
Those looking for this week’s “How did you come up with that one?” award needed to be at Hawthorne on Nov. 20.
In the sixth race, all of those “urban cowboys” out there hoping to find a friend and lover instead could bless the day they headed to the mutuel windows and plunked down $2 to win on a 77-1 shot named Looking for Love.
If you backed the chalk in that race, you were looking in the wrong places as the first-timer starter from the barn of trainer Chris Dorris won by 2 ¼ lengths despite a seven-wide trip and paid a week’s-best $155.20 for a $2 win ticket.
Talk about those traces of what you’re dreaming of.
