Set to make her fifth consecutive graded stakes start and first in New York, Charles Fipke's Forever Unbridled will face nine challengers in the $300,000 Comely Stakes (gr. III) Nov. 28 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Trained by Dallas Stewart, the daughter of Unbridled's Song has just one win from seven starts, but boasts a number of respectable finishes against graded stakes winners, including grade I winner I'm a Chatterbox, to whom she placed third in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III) and Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots earlier this season.
In her last start, the Lexus Raven Run (gr. II) Oct. 17 at Keenland, racing for the first time since an 11th-place finish in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), Forever Unbridled was six-side most of the way and closed fast to finish a respectable fifth to multiple graded stakes winner Sarah Sis.
"I thought she ran really well in her last start coming off a layoff," Stewart said. "She was flying at the end, and coming into the Comely, she's been training really well. She's a nice filly, so regardless of how it plays out, she can race from either midpack or from the back. We're excited."
At 4-1 on the morning-line for the 1 1/8-mile Comely, Forever Unbridled will depart post 9 with Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez aboard.
Coming off an impressive 2 1/2-length victory in the Empire Distaff, trainer Leah Gyarmati will saddle Wonder Gal for Treadway Racing Stable. A daughter of Tiz Wonderful, she has encountered a multitude of difficult trips this year but still has managed to hit the board in significant races, including a second-place finish in the June 27 Mother Goose (gr. I) at Belmont Park, and a third-place finish in the June 6 TVG Acorn (gr. I).
Drawing post 3 and 7-2 on the morning-line, Wonder Gal will have Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons.
Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey will enter a pair of talented runners in Carrumba for Phipps Stable and Fast Retailing for owners Andrew Rosen and Edward Easton. A daughter of Bernardini , Carrumba enters the Comely having won three consecutive races since breaking her maiden this summer on Aug. 21 at Saratoga Race Course. Most recently Oct. 12, she won an optional claiming allowance race at Belmont after being bumped at the start. The 3-1 morning-line favorite, Carrumba will leave from post 7 with Jose Ortiz aboard.
Fast Retailing, a daughter of Malibu Moon , enters the Comely after finishing third in an allowance race at Belmont on Oct. 7.
Rounding out the field is grade I winner Peace and War for trainer Graham Motion; Temper Mint Patty for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Mike Repole; Curlish Figure, entering off an optional-claiming win at Laurel Park Oct. 30 for Tom Proctor; Pangburn for Anthony Dutrow; Jc's Shooting Star, and Stroke Play.
