Santa Ana Winner Stormy Lucy Sold to Moger

Stormy Lucy, winner of the March 16 Santa Ana Stakes (gr. IIT) on the turf at Santa Anita Park, has been sold privately to Steve Moger and has been moved to the barn of Moger’s brother, Ed.
Erica Gaunt, the widow of Frank Gaunt, had kept a few horses after her husband’s death in 2012, including Stormy Lucy. Frank Lucarelli trains those runners.
"Mrs. Gaunt had kept Stormy Lucy because she was one of Frank’s favorite horses," said Lucarelli.
Frank Gaunt bought Stormy Lucy for $24,000 at the 2011 Barretts May 2-year-old sale. The 5-year-old daughter of Stormy Atlantic —Here Comes Lucinda, by Dixieland Band, won the 2012 Golden Poppy Stakes for him at Golden Gate Fields.
Stormy Lucy also has placed in three graded stakes, and Gaunt had the chance to see her compete in the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT). He died of cancer a few weeks later at age 81. As an owner, Gaunt won more than 100 races at Emerald Downs in Washington.
Lucarelli said that while he was sorry to see Stormy Lucy leave his barn, he was delighted that Ed Moger would train her.
"Ed and I went to high school together, and I ship into his barn at Santa Anita when I send a horse there," said Lucarelli, who is the number two all-time trainer at Emerald.
Stormy Lucy has won six of 21 races and has earned $392,200.
