Total handle for the Nov. 26-29 KDFW pool—the first of four scheduled wagering pools in advance of the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) May 7—was $174,682 ($141,926 in the win pool and $32,756 in exactas).
This year’s early Derby betting menu also included the debut of the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager, which provided bettors with a unique opportunity to wager on select breeding stars and their entire crop of juveniles with the hope of winning next year’s Kentucky Derby. "All Other Sires" closed as the 2-1 favorite, with North America’s top stallion
Tapit as the top individual sire at odds of 7-1, followed by leading first-crop sire
Uncle Mo at 9-1.
Tapit’s progeny includes Mohaymen, Conquest Big E, and Synchrony.

Total betting on the inaugural Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager was $34,960 ($26,751 in the win pool and $8,209 in the exactas). The KDFW and Sire Future Wager combined to handle $209,642.
Dates for the remaining 2016 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks future pools are Feb. 12-14 (KDFW Pool 2), March 11-13 (KDFW Pool 3 and Kentucky Oaks Future Wager), and April 1-3 (KDFW Pool 4).
Betting on the four KDFW pools last year totaled $1,522,976—$234,574 in Pool 1, $448,598 in Pool 2, $422,331 in Pool 3, and $417,473 in Pool 4—plus another $115,615 was wagered on the KOFW.
