Madison County Thoroughbred Farm in Iowa reports that its successful stallion Wild Gold has died of natural causes at age 25.
Pamela Michelle Schutz, of Madison County Thoroughbred Farm, said the stallion who twice finished atop Iowa’s list of leading sires will be missed.
“The air is still this morning with heavy hearts with the passing of a great racehorse and stallion,” Schutz wrote on her Facebook page. “Wild Gold blessed so many of us, he was one of those rare horses you wish everyone could have.”
On the track, the California-bred son of Wild Again won six stakes from 1994-1996 for owner Frank Stronach and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. At stud Wild Gold has sired 130 winners, including four stakes winners, from 251 starters through Dec. 2.
