With one more month remaining in 2015, pari-mutuel wagering on U.S. races is up less than a percentage point compared with the first 11 months of 2014 and in that same time period purses are down 1.68%, according to Thoroughbred Racing Economic Indicators released Dec. 4 by Equibase.

Also released were economic indicators for November but they're not very useful because this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships Saturday was contested in October this year as opposed to November last year.

Looking at figures for the first 11 months of 2015, wagering on U.S. races is up 0.74% to $9,982,781,802 while purses have declined 1.68% to $1,035,760,058. Both of those figures have been impacted by reduced racing in the U.S. this year as race days are down 4.55% to 4,473, races are off 5.85% to 36,577, and starts are down 4.11% to 285,368.
