Oaklawn Park will pay tribute to American Pharoah with a 'bobblehorse' promotion on Jan. 18, 2016, when the Martin Luther King Jr. Day card is highlighted by the $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes for 3-year-olds.
Fans who make a $2 donation to the Arkansas Racetrack Chaplaincy will receive one of the American Pharoah giveaways, while supplies last.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Zayat Stables' homebred American Pharoah won Oaklawn's Rebel Stakes (gr. II) and Arkansas Derby (gr. I) en route to becoming Thoroughbred racing's 12th Triple Crown winner. Other Oaklawn horses immortalized with a bobblehorse have included Curlin , Rachel Alexandra, and Zenyatta.
The American Pharoah promotion is one of several during the Oaklawn meet, which will also include a "$55,000 Progressive Cash Giveaway" on the Presidents' Day card of Feb. 15, when the $500,000 Southwest Stakes (gr. III) for 3-year-olds is renewed. Oaklawn will give away money after each race Presidents' Day starting with $1,000 after the first race on through the 10th race when $10,000 is given away.
One of Oaklawn's most popular promotions of the live racing season each year is the "Boat and Truck Giveaway," which returns Saturday, April 2. Registration for the contest begins Saturday, March 19, $900,000 Rebel Stakes (gr. II) Day, and must be present April 2 to win.
