Jockeys Zayas, Gaffalione Take Off Mounts

Description:

Jockeys Edgard Zayas and Tyler Gaffalione, who were unseated in separate incidents at Gulfstream Park Wednesday, Dec. 9, took off their mounts for the Dec. 10 card, but are expected to return to riding as early as Friday.

Zayas, the leading rider at the recent Gulfstream Park West meet, was unseated from Summer Chant in the gate before the fourth race. He was taken to and released from Memorial Regional Hospital after complaining of a headache.

His agent, Tito Fuentes, said Zayas has no serious injuries and could return as early as Friday.

Gaffalione, the leading rider during Gulfstream's summer meet and an Eclipse Award candidate as the nation's top apprentice, was taken to Memorial Regional when he was unseated in the fifth race aboard Sweet Summer Sweat and complained of knee and arm pain. Gaffalione was released and, like Zayas, suffered no injuries.

"Just some bumps and bruises," said Gaffalione's agent Walter Blum Jr. "We just took off today to let him chill a day. We'll be back (Friday)."
