Indiana Grand Race Course was approved for 120 dates in 2016, the same number allocated the Shelbyville, Ind., track this year, when the Indiana Horse Racing Commission approved the 2016 race dates Dec. 9.
The mixed meet will begin Tuesday, April 19, and conclude Sunday, Oct. 29, according to the schedule submitted by track owner Centaur Gaming. Centaur said 114 of the dates will be devoted to Thoroughbred racing, with some Quarter Horse races added to some of the programs, and six days will be exclusively for Quarter Horses. Post time for weekdays will be 2:15 p.m. ET and 6:05 p.m. ET on Saturdays.
Hoosier Park in Anderson, Indiana, also owned by Centaur, proposed and was granted a total of 160 days of Standardbred racing, commencing Friday, April 1, and concluding on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. Racing will take place Tuesdays through Saturdays with a post time of 5:45 p.m.
During the commission meeting, Centaur president and COO Jim Brown reviewed the recent meets at both tracks, as well as their capital improvements and marketing programs during the 2015 meets.
