Robertino Diodoro, Turf Paradise's winningest trainer, enjoyed a banner day March 31 when achieving his 1,000th milestone victory on a five-win day.
Entering the day just three wins shy of the magic mark, Diodoro wasted no time winning the first race with
Meter Me Gone. Diodoro then followed with consecutive wins in the fifth and sixth races with
Yes It's Snowing and
Tribaltique, respectively. Six-time leading rider Scott Stevens was aboard Tribaltique for the 1,000th win. Diodoro also won the eight and ninth races with
Choo Choo and
Starry Shark.
Diodoro became Turf Paradise's winningest trainer this weekend when sending out
Apply to an emphatic 10 1/4-length romp in the fifth race, a one-mile claiming event, March 29. One race prior to that, he saddled
L. A. Weekend to capture the Coyote Handicap.
"Considering all the good trainers that have come before me, I consider it an accomplishment," Diodoro, 40, said of the record. A native of Calgary, Alberta, he now resides in Phoenix.
Improving on that number Diodoro now has 111 wins with 24 days still remaining in the race meet.
