After securing the first stakes win of his career in November in the Discovery Handicap (gr. III), contested on a sloppy Aqueduct Racetrack main track, Tommy Macho will try the inner track Dec. 19 when he faces an expected six rivals in the Queens County Stakes.
While Paul Pompa Jr. and All American Horses' Tommy Macho will move from one dirt surface to another at Aqueduct, the 3-year-old Macho Uno colt will stay at the 1 1/8-mile distance, at which he scored a 4 1/4-length victory in the Discovery Nov. 11 under Javier Castellano.
Castellano will be back Saturday to guide Tommy Macho, who at 122 pounds picks up four pounds from his Discovery win and will be highweight in the field. Tommy Macho is trained by Todd Pletcher, who also will send out grade II-placed Mylute, who will attempt to end a six-race skid and secure his first career stakes win.
The field includes Vina Del Mar Thoroughbreds and Black Swan Stable's Kid Cruz, a grade III winner who has been a place bettor's dream of late as he enters off four straight runner-up finishes, most recently in the Swatara Stakes won by Page McKenney Nov. 25 at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.
