X Y Jet runs away from the competition in the Mr. Prospector Stakes.

X Y Jet continued his roll on Saturday, Dec. 19 as he easily secured the first stakes score of his career while nailing down his third straight win overall in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park.

Ever so briefly challenged early by 2013 Mr. Prospector winner Singanothersong, X Y Jet and jockey Emisael Jaramillo opened a clear lead through a quarter-mile in :21.92. Gelfenstein Farm's X Y Jet built his advantage in the turn through a half-mile in :44.27.

Alone in the stretch up by 10 1/2 lengths, X Y Jet cruised through the lane on his way to about a 9 1/4-length victory. A Kantharos   gelding and lone 3-year-old in Saturday's field of older horses, X Y Jet completed six furlongs in 1:08.56—just 0.44 seconds off the track record—on the fast track.

Trained by Jorge Navarro, X Y Jet entered off allowance-optional claiming victories at Monmouth Park and Gulfstream Park West. Those winning efforts followed surgery to remove small bone chips in both knees and a more than six-month break following a sixth-place finish in the Swale Stakes (gr. II).

"We've taken our time with him," Navarro said. "That's what we're going to do with him, take our time. This is a nice horse. A 3-year-old, doing this, beating older horses?"

Saturday's victory improved X Y Jet's career record to 4-5-1, including a previous grade III third-place finish in this year's Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream, from a dozen starts.

"I had a lot of confidence in the horse today," Jaramillo said. "I was impressed with the way he ran last time and I'm even more impressed with him today."

Second choice X Y Jet paid $6, $4, and $3 across the board. Longshot Grande Shores edged C. Zee for second and paid $9.80 to place and $4.40 to show. C. Zee returned $4.20 to show. Favorite Stallwalkin' Dude raced three-wide in the turn and failed to rally, finishing fifth.

Bred in Florida by Didier Plascenia, X Y Jet is out of winning Lost Soldier mare Soldiersingsblues, who also has produced stakes-placed Woman Soldier.
