Fairmount Park jockeys Robert Cummings and Rohan Singh are recovering from injuries after an Aug. 27 accident in which one horse broke down and was euthanized.
Fairmount spokesman Jon Sloane said Cummings had been released from the hospital after suffering significiant bruising, rib injuries, and an injured collarbone. Cummings could return to riding before the meet ends Sept. 20.
Singh is expected to receive treatment at a St. Louis area hospital for two or three more days after suffering rib injuries and internal trauma, Sloane said.
The two riders were injured in the third race Aug. 27 when Cummings' mount, Shakkarena, broke down in the upper stretch of the $3,200 claiming race and fell to the track. Singh's mount, She's On Her Way, fell over the fallen 5-year-old Shakeel mare. Shakkarena was euthanized while She's On Her Way avoided serious injury.
