The New Mexico Racing Commission reported Dec. 23 it has begun a search for a new executive director to replace Vince Mares, who resigned earlier this month
Dan Fick, former executive director of The Jockey Club and director of racing for the American Quarter Horse Association, has been hired as the acting executive director on an interim basis. He will be coordinating the executive director search, reviewing agency administrative procedures, and assisting in the development of an agency strategic plan for 2016.
Those interested in applying for this position should contact the New Mexico Racing Commission to begin the application process. A job description, application forms and reference requirements will be forwarded to the applicant. Experience in the regulatory aspects of state government and the horse racing industry is preferred. The executive director will be required to reside in Albuquerque.
According to commissioner Ray Willis, who is heading up the search committee with commissioner Gayla McCulloch, "With the current growth in the breeding of New Mexico racehorses and the excellent racing facilities the fans and horsemen enjoy in our state, we will certainly receive a number of exceptional applicants from a nationwide search. In fact, we already have interest from several quality industry professionals. "
The deadline to apply for this position is Jan. 18th. The objective of this search is to have the new executive director on staff in Albuquerque no later than mid-March.
