Twitter is no stranger to horse racing fanatics - we just can't get enough horse racing news. Last week Ciara Austin brought you California racing accounts to follow and today I’m giving you the inside scoop on who to follow on the Oaklawn Park racing scene - just in time for the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby this Saturday! For Blue Grass Stakes Twitter news, check out Victoria Garofalo’s list here.
1.) @OaklawnRacing
Oaklawn Park is home to Saturday’s Arkansas Derby, a tradition since 1936. This is their official account, which will keep you in the loop with plenty of photos and info from the action throughout the day.
2.) @FrankMirahmadi
Frank Mirahmadi is just the fourth track announcer in Oaklawn’s 110-year history. He’s also very conversational on Twitter. Shoot him a question!
3.) @CalvinHBorel
Calvin Borel is a Hall of Fame Jockey who gets the mount on the Arkansas Derby contender Conquest Titan. He's also won the Kentucky Derby three times, so if Conquest Titan heads to Louisville, Calvin knows the shortest way around!
4.) @MaryRampellini
Mary Rampellini handles the Daily Racing Form coverage for the mid-South region and gives you an insider’s perspective on the Oaklawn scene.
5.) @DerbyContenders
The Arkansas Derby has serious implications on the Kentucky Derby Points Standings. This account is devoted entirely to those horses that are in the hunt for a spot in the field for the Run for the Roses, including Arkansas Derby contenders.
6.)@_JoshBerry
Josh is providing TV coverage of the Arkansas Derby for the local Fox affiliate. He’s already posted some great photos, so give him a follow so you don’t miss out.
7.) @HotSpringsCVB
If you’re visiting Hot Springs, following their official tourism account is a must. If you’re not in town, give them a follow to get a feel for what the community is like.
8.) @RobertYatesADG
Robert Yates runs the Oaklawn beat for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. His Twitter bio states he has the “best job in the world.” That should tell you he’s going to bring the goods.
9.) @LRBigStyle
Ladies, if you’re looking for the scoop on the Arkansas fashion scene, look no further. Give Sandra McGrew and her blog, “Little Rock Big Style,” a follow.
10.) @HRTVJeff
Jeff Siegel will be broadcasting live from Oaklawn on HRTV’s “First Call.” He should add some quality buzz to your timeline.
