Monmouth Park will become the first U.S. racetrack, and first New Jersey outlet of any kind, to offer daily fantasy sports games when it launches its fantasy sports website Jan. 2.
The real-money games will be offered beginning Saturday at www.mpscoreattheshore.com. The site currently is accepting signups for daily, weekly, and season-long fantasy games.
The website notes that fantasy sports received a carve-out in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. However, attorneys general in multiple states have taken action regarding prominent daily fantasy sports companies, and some states are considering legislation to regulate and tax the games.
Game statistics will be provided by STATS, a worldwide leader in statistical sports data, and powered by Star Fantasy Leagues, Monmouth officials said. Along with the launch of the daily fantasy site, Monmouth plans to offer exchange wagering in 2016 and hopes to offer sports wagering, pending court rulings on the matter.
"This has been many months in the making," said Bill Knauf, vice president of business operations for Monmouth. "We are pleased to partner with Star Fantasy Leagues as we continue our goal of an increased gaming and entertainment presence in New Jersey. We invite all Garden State residents and those players in other legal states to join with us in this exciting new venture."
Draft legislation in New Jersey in 2015 characterized fantasy sports as games of skill, not chance. New Jersey, which has an advance deposit wagering system for horse racing, is also one of three states that offers legal online casino gambling.
