Dede McGehee's homebred Dolphus, a half brother to 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, could make his stakes debut in the $200,000 Lecomte Stakes (gr. III) Jan. 16 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots

Dolphus won at six furlongs in his debut Nov. 22 at the New Orleans track and followed that effort with a game third Dec. 18 in an optional claiming race at Lecomte's mile and 70-yard trip.

Trainer Joe Sharp said he was pleased with the 3-year-old Lookin At Lucky   colt's half-mile breeze in :50 2/5 Jan. 2.

"He had a great work yesterday and has been training well," Sharp said. "He's doing better than he did before his last race, and the 'a -other-than' didn't fill, so we may go to the Lecomte with him. It depends on how it shapes up.

"My personal vote would be to run," Sharp continued. "We've always had that race in our minds and he gained a ton out of his last race. He physically looks more athletic and is starting to lose that baby fat and look like an older horse."

If he is entered in the Lecomte, Dolphus would likely face the two foes who finished ahead of him last out: Mark Breen's Pinnacle Peak and Gayle Benson's Dallas Tom's Ready.
