Description:

Looking for the perfect winter coat to take you to the racetrack and beyond? I’m here to help! A great jacket will keep you feeling warm without sacrificing style, and I put together a few examples of how to rock outerwear at the track, on a date, running errands, and more. As always, no item in these sets costs more than $50; and if you want to shop the look, just click on the image and go from there. Ready? Let’s hit it!
1. Peacoat for the Races

Pea coats are always a style staple, and I love the brass button and notched lapel details on this $44 version from Beautiful Halo. I paired it with a $16 plaid pencil skirt from SheIn, a merlot-hued blouse for $22 by BlackFive, and a pair of matching stack-heeled boots by New Look for just $22. Accessorize with a croc-embossed Dasein handbag for $44, a statement necklace for $6 by Charlotte Russe, and make the whole look race day-ready with this $38 fascinator by Cara. All together, this ensemble will run you $192 from footwear to fascinator!
Peacoat for Work

The same $44 pea coat can take you through a workday with a few tweaks to the look. For the office, I added this tartan shift dress for $50 by TopShop; layer on a pair of opaque fleece-lined tights ($30, Club Monaco) and add a pair of neutral booties for $49 by Charles & Keith. The Kaia bag is just $20 and is the perfect size to tote any files or even a small laptop; then add a few discreet pieces of jewelry like these $24 pearl studs by Carolee and a $21 watch from JC Penney. The total of this look is $238 (or $194 if you remove the cost of the coat).
2. Moto Jacket for the Races

Moto jackets are absolutely everywhere this winter, and I love this shearling version for $45 by Style Moi. Soften up the look with a turtleneck sweater dress for $15 from Zaful, a pair of brown suede pumps for $28 from BooHoo.com, and a warm floppy wool hat for $37.99 from e4Hats.com. Keep cozy with this pair of $35 cashmere-lined leather gloves from Ralph Lauren, then add the finishing touches with this on-trend saddle bag for $30 by Neiman Marcus and a pair of $38 studs by Kate Spade. All in all, this look is ready for the track for $228.99.
Moto Jacket for the Weekend

Our same $44 Style Moi moto jacket can be recycled into a much more casual look, perfect for running errands or catching a movie. I added a pair of gray H&M jeans for $20, a devastatingly cool pair of boots for $50 from Elegant Footwear, a simple $18 hoodie from makeitmint, and a Sole Society beanie for $25. Finish off the look with this $36 Liz Claiborne tote, a pair of navy gloves for $36 by Isotoner, a pair of $5.90 aviator sunglasses from Forever21 and the $42 House of Harlow hoops. All in all, this look will run you $276.90, or $232.90 if you subtract the cost of the previously mentioned moto jacket.
3. Flared Trench for the Races

I love the romanticism of this $43 Rotita coat. For the races, I layered it over a $34 tartan dress from Rose Gal. The $41 pumps by Pop Map look like they’re tailor-made for this ensemble, and the BlackFive handbag looks much more expensive than its $35 price tag. Thrown on a pair of $6.97 Via Spiga tights for warmth, then add a pair of knot earrings for $22 by Susan Shaw and a classic fascinator for $30 fascinator found on Amazon; and you’re ready for a day in the Clubhouse for a total of $211.97.
Flared Trench for Date Night

16WinterCoats3_DateNight by penelopemiller featuring a long coat
Like I said before, the $43 Rotita piece is one romantic coat!  Make it the centerpiece of a date look with a classic little black dress from Paper Dolls for $49 featuring a cool laser-cut neckline. The $35 Qupid pumps are super flirty, and the $21 Avenue handbag is a nice callback to the dress’s metallic belt. The $20 Dolce Giavonna earrings add a little sparkle, and MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick ($17) literally looks good on everyone. This whole look comes together for $185, or $142 less the cost of the coat we already have.
4. Statement Coat for the Races

I love a statement coat, and this black-and-white number from BlackFive for $50 is right up my alley. I decided to continue the look using an attention-grabbing black-and-white palette, so a $44 pencil skirt from River Island and the $15 SheIn blouse are great additions to the set. The black patent-leather T-straps are $45 from Unique Vintage, and the handbag (how cute is the smile detail?) is $15 from SheIn. The glovettes are just $4.07 by Yoins, the earrings are $35 from Kevin Jewelers; and make the look perfect for the track with the addition of this $26 fascinator found on Amazon. All in all, this look comes together for $234.07.
Statement Coat for Errands

Have some errands to run around town? Then we can incorporate our statement coat and our black-and-white color scheme into a perfect look for taking care of business. We’ll start with our $50 BlackFive coat, and then throw on a pair of black jeans for $34 by River Island. The booties are just $16 by Refresh, and the turtleneck sweater is $20 from Zara. Dorothy Perkins offers up the oversize tote for $37, and the ASOS wool hat in winter white is yours for $36. Finish off the look with a pair of shades ($20, Fly Jane) and a coat of Essie nail polish for $8.50. This look comes together for $221.50, or $171.50 if you discount the coat.
Remember, the most important thing to wear to the races is whatever makes you feel great, but a good warm coat is never a bad bet when the mercury falls! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a wonderful New Year.
