The calendar recently turned to 2016, and in the racing world every January undoubtedly brings two things: the Kentucky Derby trail starting to heat up and the highly anticipated Eclipse Awards, honoring the best the sport of Thoroughbred racing has to offer.
America’s year-end awards for the best horses and horseman have been around since 1971, though the honors existed with a different name beginning in 1936. Read on to get the scoop on the numbers and history of the Eclipse Awards.
0 – The number of Triple Crown winners who were not named Horse of the Year since 1936. American Pharoah appears to be a shoo-in to continue the trend this year.
