America’s Best Racing and BetAmerica team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, handicapper and avid gambler Monique Vág will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet. The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, Vág will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
She also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.
Place your bets at BetAmerica, which prides itself on outstanding customer service combined with the safety and security of wagering with a reputable advance-deposit wagering platform.
This Weekend’s Bets
Longshot Bet
Saturday, Gulfstream Park, Race 8, 3:35 p.m. ET
#13 Ami’s Holiday: Although the win column is far from stellar, his 2015 campaign was filled with graded stakes starts, so racing in an allowance/optional claiming race should be an appreciated drop. His last win came on the turf and recent the workouts look good. The big odds at post time make this one a desirable price play for me.
Best Bet
Saturday, Gulfstream Park, Race 9, 4:05 p.m. ET
#5 Flutterby: In her last start, this mare was noticeably worked up in the starting gate. After breaking from the post, she was immediately pressured on the lead and never got separation on the front end. Flutterby enters the race as the one to beat and her short odds will reflect this at post time. Look for her to attempt a victory in front-running fashion.
Exacta Box
Saturday, Santa Anita Park, Race 6, 6 p.m. ET
#8 Doodetta: This mare finds herself facing much easier in a drop from a $62,500 optional claiming race to a $40,000 claiming race and receives a new rider in Drayden Van Dyke. She has been performing well at Santa Anita with a career-best Beyer Speed Figure in her last win in this class on the turf. In three starts here, she’s been in the money all three times with one win. She seems like a good fit here and a logical win contender.
#2 Belle Et Bete: Seems this filly was a little bit too far back and left with too much to do in her last start at Del Mar. She’s had Grade 3 experience and Rafael Bejarano is back aboard after her last win two starts back. I like her turf pedigree.
Best Bet
Sunday, Fair Grounds, Race 8, 6:52 p.m. ET
#4 Colour Party: After two stakes tries, this filly finds herself in an allowance race against much softer company. The drop in class and two career-best Beyer Speed Figures back-to-back entice me most about this one. I think she will like the longer distance going from sprint to route. She is the one to beat.
