Trainer Silvera Notches Career Win 1,000

Description:

Veteran Woodbine-based trainer Laurie Silvera secured the 1,000th victory of his career Sunday, April 13 when 8-5 favorite Sorry About That drew off in the stretch for a three-length score in an optional claiming race.

Silvera, 74, of Campbellsville, Ont. has been training horses since 1975 and may be best known for saddling Free At Last to a victory in the 1991 Summer Stakes (Can-IIIT). Silvera won three straight training titles at Greenwood Racing from 1989-91.

Silvera’s son Arthur also is a successful trainer.

Pat O’Grady homebred Sorry About That was guided to victory by jockey Omar Moreno, completing the five-furlong test in :57.48 on the Polytrack. Dublin Lane, a horse trained by Silvera, still holds the Woodbine track record for five furlongs from an April 11, 2009 maiden special weight race the Alke colt completed in :56.41.
