My Miss Sophia, Got Lucky Breeze at Churchill

Two Todd Pletcher-trained contenders for the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I)—My Miss Sophia and Got Lucky—worked in tandem at Churchill Downs the morning of April 19, breezing a half-mile in :48.
With My Miss Sophia racing on the inside, the two 3-year-old fillies were timed in splits of :12, :24, and :35 4/5 for three-quarters of a mile, and galloped out five-eighths in 1:01 3/5.
"I thought they both breezed very well," Pletcher said. "They seemed to handle the racetrack fine. I'm very happy. They both seemed to have settled in well since their races in New York. I like the way they're training."
My Miss Sophia has qualified for the Oaks field with 100 points. She comes into the 1 1/8-mile race May 2 off an impressive 7 1/4-length romp in the Gazelle Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park after breaking her maiden by 11 lengths in her second career start.
A daughter of Unbridled's Song—Wildwood Flower, by Langfuhr , My Miss Sophia races for Mathis Stable. The $260,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase was bred in Kentucky by John D. Gunther.
Got Lucky, a daughter of A.P. Indy—Malka, by Deputy Minister, is also qualified for the Oaks with 64 points. The Kentucky homebred for Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings and Philip J. Steinberg has a maiden win and four second-place finishes in five career starts.
Her placings include runner-up efforts to stablemate My Miss Sophia in the Gazelle and to Oaks points leader Untapable in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
"They're different kind of fillies. As you can see from their running styles, My Miss Sophia has a little more early pace and should be involved early," Pletcher said. "Got Lucky is the kind of filly that wants to settle back and make one run. The one thing for her in this particular Oaks is there should be an honest pace for her to kind of run the way that she wants to."
