America’s Best Racing and BetAmerica team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, handicapper and avid gambler Monique Vág will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet. The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, Vág will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
She also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.
Place your bets at BetAmerica, which prides itself on outstanding customer service combined with the safety and security of wagering with a reputable advance-deposit wagering platform.
This Weekend’s Bets
Best Bet
Saturday, Aqueduct, Race 9, Toboggan Stakes, 4:20 p.m. ET
#4 Dads Caps: This horse draws inside his main rival going 6 furlongs, a distance he's most familiar with. Despite his last start being in June of 2015, all signs point to him being ready with super-fast works on the Aqueduct dirt. I think he'll work out the perfect trip behind a front running Green Gratto.
Exacta Box
Saturday, Aqueduct, Race 10, 4:50 p.m. ET
#2 Joey Cap: First time blinkers are added to this one, and trainer Michelle Nevin has found success with this angle in the past. He narrowly lost at a short price last time out and has experience on the Aqueduct inner dirt.
#11 Fakeittilumakeit: Almost broke his maiden last time out after leading all the way until the final sixteenth. Jockey Eric Cancel remains on and trainer Bruce Brown has put up some good numbers within the maiden claiming ranks. With a good break, this horse is dangerous and the price will be right.
#9 Borrowed Dreams: With a vulnerable morning-line favorite in this race, there's lots to like in terms of price plays. This colt recently dropped out of maiden special weight into claiming company. The drop to face easier is my angle of choice in this wide open claiming race.
Best Bet
Sunday, Fair Grounds, Keith Gee Memorial Stakes, 5:52 p.m. ET
#9 Sheikh of Sheikhs: There's no denying Wesley Ward shipped this colt in ready. Today he will try turf for the first time in his career, but he's competed against some of the nation's top horses in graded stakes company. He's been working out over the turf, and his connections must like what they see to ship him in for a first time turf start in a 3-year old stakes event.
Longshot Bet
Sunday, Santa Anita Park, Race 7, 6:30 p.m. ET
#2 Texas Two Step: This gelding finds himself second start off the claim for new connections. With precipitation as high as 93 percent likely around post time and showers starting earlier in the day, I place an extra emphasis on post position and sires which have shown a liking towards the wet surface. In past races, he's often a short price and has the pedigree to take really well to a potential off track.
