Catching Up with Go for Gin
Description:
With apologies to 24-year-old Sea Hero (he stands at stud in Turkey), 23-year-old Go for Gin is the oldest living Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner based in North America. The son of Cormorant—Never Knock, by Stage Door Johnny, bred in Kentucky by Pamela Darmstadt duPont and raced by William Condren and Joseph Cornacchia, won the 1994 Derby in the slop over Strodes Creek and Blumin Affair. He would go on to finish second behind Tabasco Cat in both the Preakness and Belmont (both gr. I) stakes for trainer Nick Zito. He currently resides at the Kentucky Horse Park just north of Lexington.
