Saturday, Jan. 30, Race 7, Laurel Park
#5 Egyptian Magic (7-2, morning-line odds): There are a couple of strong angles that drew my attention to this daughter of Eskendreya. Prior to her last two races, she was running mostly in New York and ran very competitively against essentially what amounts to similar company. She tired late in her most recent start when going longer. She cuts back here for trainer Cathal Lynch, who has been pretty hot since moving his stable from Parx Racing to Laurel last month. I think she’ll get a nice setup with projected pace coming from #9 Dreaming of Bella and, potentially, #2 Super Sharp.

Sunday, Jan. 31, Race 4, Gulfstream Park
#6 Let’s Wrap It Up (3-1, morning-line odds): This is an interesting race. There are two horses taking drops in class who are wild cards in this one: Inside the Pipe and Karlyrae’swarrior. But ultimately, I decided to go with Let’s Wrap It Up, who has proven the most consistent - especially at Gulfstream - of this inconsistent bunch. He’s won his last two, working his way back up the claiming ranks. This is a horse who was running against much tougher horses in New York for most of last year. His two best career races were at Gulfstream, going this same 1 1/16-mile distance with jockey Paco Lopez aboard. Assuming he can get a nice pace to run into, he should be flying late.
