Canada's leading turf race for 2-year-old fillies, the Natalma Stakes, has been upgraded to grade I status by the Jockey Club of Canada's Graded Stakes Committee
Run at one mile at Woodbine, the Natalma was won in 2015 by Catch a Glimpse, who subsequently won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT).
The committee bases its decisions on the cumulative NARC ratings over the past five years.
The decision means Canada now has five grade I races, all on turf. The other four are the Northern Dancer Turf Stakes, the Woodbine Mile, the Canadian International, and the E.P. Taylor Stakes.
None of Canada's other graded stakes races had their status changed, but seven races lost their non-graded stakes status, six of which are at Northlands Park.
