The Pickett Factor wins at Fair Grounds
Melissa Cantacuzene's The Pickett Factor, winner of the Louisiana Classic Stakes in his last start, returns to action Feb. 6 for the $200,000 Louisiana-bred Premier Night Championship Stakes at Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel.
Premier Night features 11 races, all for Louisiana-bred runners. First post time for the Saturday program is 5:40 p.m. CST.
The Pickett Factor, a 4-year-old Gold Tribute gelding bred by E.O. Pickett and trained by Ralph Irwin, is no stranger to Delta Downs. He won the one-mile Gold Cup for state-breds before his victory in the 1 1/8-mile Louisiana Classic Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
The Pickett Factor has six wins and a third in eight starts; in his other start he finished fourth in the grade II Super Derby at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. Luis Quinonez has the call on the 125-pound highweight from post 5 in an eight-horse field.
The 1 1/16-mile Championship Stakes attracted two horses owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trained by Joe Sharp: One King's Man and Know You Now, both of which were claimed in 2014.
One King's Man, a 6-year-old K One King gelding, finished behind The Pickett Factor in the Gold Cup and Louisiana Championship before an impressive come-from-behind win in a state-bred allowance race Jan. 7 at Fair Grounds. Miguel Mena has the mount from post 1.
One King's Man, claimed for $40,000 in October 2014, won the Premier Night Championship Stakes last year.
Know You Now, a 5-year-old Half Ours gelding, has finished behind The Pickett Factor and One King's Man. He exits a sixth-place finish in a starter/optional claiming turf race Jan. 23 at Fair Grounds. Colby Hernandez Jr. will ride from post 7.
