After Blue Grass Silver, Medal Count Targets Derby Gold

Description:

The Toyota Blue Grass Stakes on April 12 at Keeneland Race Course was a make-or-break Kentucky Derby prep race for Medal Count, a rapidly improving Dynaformer colt trained by Dale Romans for owner Spendthrift Farm.

Follow Medal Count’s journey from his prerace preparations for the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes, to saddling him in the Keeneland paddock, to welcoming back the Blue Grass runner-up, to celebrating his clinching of a spot in the 140th edition of the Kentucky Derby on May 3.

Medal Count won the Transylvania Stakes on April 4 on the grass at Keeneland and came back on short rest to earn his place in the Derby by finishing second in the Blue Grass on Keeneland’s synthetic Polytrack surface.
