With cold weather and high winds forecast for the Austintown, Ohio area, Mahoning Valley Race Course has cancelled its live racing program scheduled for Feb. 13. Live racing is scheduled to return Feb., 15 with a starting time of 12:45 p.m ET. Full-card simulcasting will remain open Saturday.
"In the interest of safety for our equine and human athletes, along with our employees, the decision was made to cancel live racing," said Mark Loewe, vice president of Ohio Racing for Penn Gaming Inc. "The decision to cancel was based on forecasted single-digit temperatures and winds expected to drive wind chills into negative double digits."
This is the first cancelation this winter for Mahoning Valley, which began its current live racing season in October. Officials stated that the lost racing day will be made up at a future date. The winter/spring meet is scheduled to run through April 23.
