Aqueduct Cancels Live Racing for Feb. 14

Description:
For the second consecutive day, racing at Aqueduct Racetrack was canceled Feb. 14 due to extreme winter weather conditions including high winds and sub-zero wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service, it was five degrees with nine-mile-per-hour winds at 9 a.m. EST in New York, making it feel like eight below zero. The high temperature Sunday was forecast to be 21 degrees.

Aqueduct and the Belmont Café were both scheduled to remain open for simulcasting, with racing set to resume at Aqueduct Feb. 15 for the President's Day card.

The New York Racing Association added Feb. 18 to the live racing schedule at Aqueduct because of the recent cancellations. Thursday's card will be composed of entries redrawn from overnight races originally intended for Saturday and Sunday's canceled cards.

The New York State Gaming Commission approved the added day. The $100,000 Haynesfield Stakes and $100,000 Broadway Stakes, originally scheduled for Feb. 13, will be redrawn and run Feb. 21.

Turfway Park also canceled the final six races of their Saturday card after completing the first amid blowing, accumulating snow. The facility remains open for simulcasting.
