Call Pat Goes Last to First in Bayakoa

Call Pat wins the Bayakoa Stakes.
Miller Racing's Call Pat validated her graded stakes-winning credential from last year's Groupie Doll Stakes (gr. III), with a score Feb. 14 in the $100,000 Bayakoa Stakes (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park.
The 6-year-old daughter of Lawyer Ron was last in the field of nine older fillies and mares in the backstretch and as she headed into the final turn of the 1 1/16-mile dirt race, as many as 10 lengths back, but saved as much ground as she could under jockey Joseph Rocco Jr.
The pair angled out and surged on the outside in the stretch and found just enough to best Streamline by a half-length. Call Pat hit the wire in 1:45.81 and paid $6.80, $4.20, and $3.20 across the board in the winning effort for trainer Brad Cox.
Streamline, who bided her time on the rail under jockey Chris Landeros, just off early leader Meshell through fractions of :24.10, :48.88, and 1:14.36, found an opening exiting the turn and battled past the front-runner, but could not hold off the closing Call Pat. Streamline paid $4.60 and $3.80, while Meshell—a neck back—brought $5.60 to show.
Favored three-time graded winner Sarah Sis stalked the early pace but faded to finish fourth, nine lengths behind the winner.
Bred in Kentucky by Don Ameche III, Don Ameche Jr., and Prancing Horses Enterprises, out of the Rahy mare First Song, Call Pat has a 6-5-5 record from 29 starts and earnings of $404,589.
Cabana came in fifth, followed by Ribbon of Darkness, Tosha Talifero, and Pearl Turn, to complete the order of finish.
