Jockeys Flavien Prat and Emma-Jayne Wilson take America's Best Racing’s readers inside the jockeys’ room in 2016. Prat rides on the Southern California circuit after launching his career in his native France, where he was named champion apprentice in 2009 and won a Group 1 race in 2013. He also won the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes in 2015 in his first full year of riding in the U.S. Canadian Emma-Jayne Wilson rides at Woodbine in Toronto after being named champion apprentice jockey in both the U.S. and Canada. She earned her first Grade 1 win aboard Interpol in the Northern Dancer Stakes in 2015.
Throughout the series Prat and Wilson share insight into all kinds of questions including how they became jockeys, what goes on between races, whom they admire and what type of movies and fashion style they prefer.
At what age did you first ride a horse and when did you realize you wanted to be a jockey?
PRAT: I rode my first horse at the age of 8. I knew from age 5 that I wanted to become a jockey.
WILSON: I’ve ridden since starting lessons at age 9. I’ve wanted to be a jockey as long as I can remember.

How much does a jockey earn in a year? What’s the most money you’ve ever made in your best year?
PRAT: Not enough, haha!
WILSON: Well, that would be confidential. ;)

PRAT: TripAdvisor
WILSON: Admittedly, Clash of Clans (don’t tell anyone).
What are you reading now (book, magazine, etc)? Would you recommend it?
PRAT: I read magazines. My favorite is GQ.
WILSON: I like C.J. Box. He has written a series of novels about a game warden named Joe Pickett — they’re great.
If you could attend only one of the following events, which one would you attend and why: Oscars, MTV Music Awards, ESPYs or Cannes Film Festival?
PRAT: Oscars

For me Super Bowl Sunday always means …
PRAT: … a short day at the racetrack.
