Social Inclusion, third-place finisher in the Twinspires.com Wood Memorial (gr. I), has sustained a bruised right hoof that forced him to be scratched from the May 3 Sir Bear Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Rontos Racing Stable's Ron Sanchez said the Pioneerof the Nile colt, who won his first two races at Gulfstream by 17 1/2 lengths before the Wood Memorial, is still on schedule to make his next start in the May 17 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) at Pimlico Race Course despite the setback.
"We had to scratch because he bruised his hoof this morning," Sanchez said. "He's OK, he's going good and it's nothing serious, and this thing will heal in two days. But we didn't want to take a chance running today with the big race just two weeks away. We always have to do the right thing by the horse. Right now, we've arranged to go to the Preakness on (Wednesday, May 7), but I think now we'll probably just go (Thursday, May 8)."
Wicked Strong and Samraat, the respective first- and second-place finishers in the Wood, are entered in the May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
