Description:

When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Dan Tordjman, America’s Best Racing’s New York correspondent, is one of the brightest young minds in the game.
Each week, Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup.
Come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.
Saturday, Feb. 27, Race 8, Gulfstream Park, Canadian Turf Stakes, 3:25 p.m. ET
#1 Tower of Texas (5-1 ML): When last seen, this horse drew a wet track, which he obviously didn’t take to. Additionally, that was a much deeper group in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. If you go back a little further, you’ll find some really nice races from this horse, including a nose defeat in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes two races back and a resounding victory in the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes. The big question is how he’ll take to the Gulfstream surface for the first time, after having run exclusively at Woodbine until now. However, with the rail draw and the possibility of saving ground behind likely pacesetter #8 Heart to Heart, I think Tower of Texas will make one run late and get up in time. I also love to see that the best jockey in the country, Javier Castellano, sees fit to jump aboard for this race.

Sunday, Feb. 28, Race 7, Gulfstream Park, 3:35 p.m. ET
#10 Flatlined (Odds TBD): This horse ran huge last out, missing by just a neck after encountering some major trip trouble. He probably faced better last out and his finish in that race bodes well for his chances against this field. He seems to enjoy running over the track, having broken his maiden (won his first race) at Gulfstream going this same 1 1/16 mile distance back in December. The trainer has had a sensational meet and this horse looks very live in this spot.
