Description:

America’s Best Racing and BetAmerica team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, handicapper and avid gambler Monique Vág will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet. The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, Vág will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
She also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.
Place your bets at BetAmerica, which prides itself on outstanding customer service combined with the safety and security of wagering with a reputable advance-deposit wagering platform.

This Weekend’s Bets
Best Bet
Saturday, Race 5, Gulfstream Park, Fasig-Tipton Davona Dale Stakes, 1:56 p.m. ET
#5 Cathryn Sophia: It’s hard to fault this talented filly. She’s a perfect three-for-three in her career with winning margins of a combined 34 ½ lengths. Her last race is exactly what connections were hoping for – she raced from off the pace, swung out wide and ran down runners in the stretch; different from her typical front running style. If things continue going as well she’s aimed towards the Kentucky Oaks. I’m expecting a big effort in this Grade 2 race.
Longshot Bet
Saturday, Gulfstream Park, Race 7, 2:55 p.m. ET
#9 Off Limits: She’s raced against some really large fields and tough competition in Europe. This filly is coming off a five month layoff, but she’s had steady gaps in between workouts since January. She’s trained by Chad Brown which is always a positive, and I think she fits well in this spot.
Best Bet
Saturday, Race 6, Santa Anita Park, Sensational Star Stakes, 6 p.m. ET
#7 Forest Chatter: He was really good last year, winning five of nine races. Hard not to like how he has stakes experience and a steady rider in Mike Smith. He loves the Santa Anita Park dirt, and he’ll be forwardly placed pending a decent break. I’m expecting a short price at post time, but can’t see myself backing anyone else. He’s my Pick 6 single.
Exacta Box
Sunday, Fair Grounds, Race 3, 3:25 p.m. ET
#6 Princess Sela: This first time starter tries her luck in a 3-year-old maiden claiming race. She’s going to be trying Lasix (furosemide) for the first time, which is a tricky angle to handicap, but if her workout on Jan. 31, four furlongs in 47.80 (1/102 runners on that day), is any predictor of performance, then she should win this race by open lengths.
#2 Custom Built: She adds blinkers in here after debuting on the turf in a $37,000 maiden special weight contest. Her first start wasn’t bad at all, she seemed to be closing nicely. I think the addition of blinkers could potentially help her break quicker. It’s a huge question mark how she will take the dirt surface, but I’ll take a shot at a nice price.
#4 Katy’s Duchess: She was bumped in the start of her last race, so I’m crossing that one entirely out of consideration. This filly is another one in here who adds blinkers, not sure what I think about the addition but it might again be beneficial to a (hopefully) cleaner break at post time. She should appreciate facing maiden claiming company and a smaller field than she faced in her first two.
