The Maryland Jockey Club announced it will add a Preakness Pick 3 wager that will start with a graded stakes May 16 and end with the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) the following day at Pimlico Race Course.
The Preakness Pick 3 wager will include the $300,000 Pimlico Special (gr. III) Friday, and the $400,000 Dixie Stakes (gr. II) and $1.5 million Preakness Saturday.
"This is an attractive bet," Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas said in a May 7 release. "It features three of our six graded races on Preakness weekend. We believe it will be appealing to players around the world."
The wager has a 50-cent minimum with a takeout rate of 25.75%.
Pimlico will offer guaranteed pool minimums for three Pick Four wagers offered Preakness weekend. The May 16 pool for races 9-13 will carry a $250,000 guarantee. On May 17, races 5-8 will have a $350,000 guarantee, while races 9-12 carry a $1.5 million guarantee.
Pimlico will continue to offer the Pimlico Special/Preakness double, which combines Friday's 12th race, the Pimlico Special, with Saturday's race 12, the Preakness. This wager has a $1 minimum bet value with a takeout of 21%.
Any carryover in the Pimlico Jackpot Pick 5, currently with a $93,467 carryover, will be forced out on Preakness day.
