TVG said it posted significant gains in wagering for the May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) program.
Pari-mutuel handle increased 36% from 2013, driven by a 22% increase in active customers and a 17% rise in new registrations, TVG officials said.
Results for Kentucky Derby week were up 26% from last year, active customers increased 19%, and registrants climbed 10%. Mobile wagering grew significantly. According to the company, it was up 31% year-over-year for the week, and 11% for Derby day.
TVG said its coverage of the Kentucky Derby reached 2.2 million users on Facebook.
The "Odds Boost" promotion, which gave participating customers 4-1 win odds on California Chrome, generated interest in the advance pool. With California Chrome paying $7 for a win bet, TVG paid close to $100,000 in bonus money.
"TVG Odds Boost was part of a 360 marketing campaign aimed at new fans, and as the numbers indicate, the campaign resonated with our customers as well," said Bhavesh Patel, TVG senior vice president of television operations and marketing. "We are pleased with the number of new customers who joined, and with the continued growth of wagering on our mobile platform."
