Court to Have Surgery on Broken Hand May 19

Jockey Jon Court, injured in the final race at Churchill Downs May 3, is scheduled to have surgery on his broken right hand May 19 according to his agent.
"He will be out for the rest of the (Churchill) meet and maybe start back at Ellis Park or Indiana (Grand Race Course)," agent Steve Krajcir said of Court, who sustained the injury in a spill two races after the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands.
The Ellis Park meet is to begin July 3.
Court's mount in the maiden special weight test at 1 1/16 miles on the main track, Canadian Winner, broke down past the half mile pole. Canadian Winner, from the barn of Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, was euthanized.
A second horse, Appealing Alex, could not avoid the fallen horse and was vanned off the track after throwing jockey Jose Ortiz. The rider took off his mounts May 4 at Belmont Park but was riding again on the May 7 card.
