A dining option at the Lord Baltimore Hotel ... spectacular ambiance for a meal!
Still considering a last-minute trip to witness the second jewel of the Triple Crown? Are the hotel prices making you cringe?
Below are three options to fit multiple budgets or interests. The kicker is all three have vacancy at publication for the upcoming weekend. No more excuses. Book one of these — you’re guaranteed not to regret it.
Win: Lord(e) Baltimore Hotel
The Rate: $297
The Lowdown: The Preakness Infieldfest is headlined by Grammy-winner Lorde, so naturally, our winner in this series shares her namesake. While the hook to her hit song goes “We’ll Never Be Royals,” we can stay like one for a very reasonable price at the Lord Baltimore Hotel, especially considering it is Preakness Weekend.
The hotel first opened for business in 1928. However, the “iconic grand dame of Baltimore,” underwent an aesthetic face lift recently and celebrated its reopening in March of this year. Scott Sanders, originally of Ralph Lauren’s interior design team, spearheaded the renovation, which has brought back the luster to rooms where the likes of Martin Luther King Jr. have spent the night.
Place: The Hotel at Arundel Preserve
The Rate: $169
The Lowdown: The establishment touts itself as a sustainable stay, taking every initiative to create a green, eco-friendly hotel. With an effort like that, there is no doubt this hotel is making a Dynamic Impact on the Baltimore community.
With its Hannover location you’re left with about a 45-minute drive to Pimlico. But less hotel cost on the front end means more money for crab cakes and your betting bankroll on the back end. This hotel is simplistic. Overall, it’s a what you see is what you get kinda’ place, and I respect that.
Show: Glen Rock Mill Inn
The Rate: $50
The Lowdown: That’s not a misprint. Fifty bucks gets you a bed in this inn that is steeped in rustic tradition. Original 1837 brick and wooden beams make up this former saw mill structure, which is nestled on the border of Southern Pennsylvania. If you’re a history buff, this place could tickle your fancy.
If you’re of the foodie type, Glen Rock Mill Inn will satisfy your palate. Country fresh greens and select seasonal Eastern Seaboard ingredients make up the menu. A swift 40-mile drive straight down I-83 is all it takes to arrive at the Preakness in style and with a little extra thickness to your billfold.
