Description:

America’s Best Racing and BetAmerica team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, handicapper and avid gambler Monique Vág will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet. The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, Vág will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
She also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.
Place your bets at BetAmerica, which prides itself on outstanding customer service combined with the safety and security of wagering with a reputable advance-deposit wagering platform.

This Weekend’s Bets
Exacta Box
Saturday, Race 1, Santa Anita Park, 3:30 p.m. ET
#8 Heat: This gelding has continually received play at the windows, but still remains winless after 10 attempts. I think in a way that adds to his appeal though, with a lot of first time starters in the field racing experience is valuable. He fits right in at this distance and this classification. He’ll be forwardly placed and is clearly overdue.
#4 Atypique: First time Lasix (furosemide), first time starter as a 4-year-old colt. He meets a suspect group of maidens. I like the breeding, I like the trainer, but I have questions about the distance – it might be a little shorter than what I envision his best distance to be, but he must be respected in this race.
Best Bet
Saturday, Race 5, Santa Anita Park, Santa Ysabel Stakes, 5:45 p.m. ET
#6 Songbird: It almost feels like cheating to put Songbird as a “best bet” at this point. She boasts a perfect record and has never looked vulnerable. She’ll be on the lead in the deep stretch, and is clearly the one to beat. There are arguments to be made about the quality of 3-year-old fillies this year with Songbird and Cathryn Sophia appearing to be leagues above the rest. Until they meet up I can’t even consider playing against last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and 2-year-old filly champion in Songbird.
Longshot Play
Saturday, Race 8, Aqueduct, 4:20 p.m. ET
#1 Final Chapter: He’s had some success on the inner dirt at Aqueduct before, winning two of three attempts, and he’s had outstanding workouts this winter which makes his resume even more appealing to me. Look for a quick break and this ridgling to be involved in the mix early. I think six furlongs is a perfect distance to be entered at today. He’ll be great price play against a very vulnerable favorite.
Best Bet
Sunday, Race 3, Aqueduct, 2:20 p.m. ET
#5 Matt King Coal: I am super excited to see this one make his 2016 debut. Although he’s racing in a 3-year-old allowance optional claiming contest with no Kentucky Derby points on the line, this is still an important race against a couple of other Derby hopefuls. First start off the bench may be tough, but I’m expecting a huge effort. Note: connections opted to skip the Gotham Stakes for this race.
