May, Owens Join Keeneland Communications

Description:

Keeneland announced Sept. 3 that Matt May and Amy Owens have joined its Communications staff as media relations manager and communications associate, respectively.

May comes to Keeneland following 12 years with The Cats' Pause magazine, where he was senior staff writer and columnist covering University of Kentucky athletics. He also has served as a sports talk radio host for Clear Channel Communications in the Lexington market.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky's School of Journalism and Telecommunications, May began his career with Lexington-based iHigh.com before a stint at the Louisville Courier-Journal. The Louisville, Ky., native also has worked as a freelance writer for Associated Press.

Owens is a veteran horse racing writer, having served in editorial positions at Blood-Horse, the American Quarter Horse Association, and Thoroughbred Times. She most recently worked as a freelance writer and editor, handling a variety of assignments for publications, organizations, and farms in the racing industry.

A native of St. Charles, Missouri, Owens is a graduate of the University of Missouri's School of Journalism. She has assisted in managing Keeneland's race track press box since 2006, and has served as editor of the track's race-day program wrap for the past six years.

"I am very excited to welcome Matt and Amy to the team," said director of communications Amy Gregory. "They are both talented communications professionals whose skills will enable us to further expand our outreach and those services we provide to the media."

Both May and Owens begin their new positions effective immediately.
