The Kentucky Derby is only 60 days away, and that means the road to the roses is heating up in a big way! For fans of Thoroughbreds, the spring races leading up to the Derby leave Christmas in the dust; this is truly the most wonderful time of the year. Today we turn to the Gilmore Girls, whose cast will explain the Derby Trail obsession to us in GIF form.
1. Even though the Kentucky Derby isn’t *that* far away, it feels like an eternity.
2. And while the weather’s getting warmer and the birds are beginning to chirp in the trees, every Saturday you happily choose to be glued to the TV to watch the prep races. You will not apologize for this.
3. Your friends may worry that you’re too obsessed with this whole horse racing thing, but you don’t care.
4. You may already have a favorite horse, one you know in your heart will win the roses in May. He may be flying underneath the radar, but he’s your horse this year.
5. In fact, if you live near the track where this horse trains, you may even get up early on your day off to watch him gallop in the morning.
6. If you don’t live near the track, you get online to talk about the Derby prep races and how your horse is doing.
7. When you hop on Twitter or Facebook, you may find other people who like the same horse you do!
8. After all, sometimes it’s the best way to talk horse racing with similarly obsessed people.
9. In fact, you and your like-minded friends may try to put together a complicated bet on your chosen racehorse:
10. Or, you may run into someone who really, really doubts your fav’s abilities.
11. You have two options in that case: you can log off and not deal with the haters ...
12. Or you can go on the offensive:
13. Either way, you’re going to ignore the noise and you’ll still support your horse!
14. When it’s time for a big prep race, you’re ready to root your chosen horse home – especially if you think you can get decent betting odds on him.
15. You just hope that he finishes well and earns enough points to get to the starting gate in the Kentucky Derby. You’ll be so bummed if he doesn’t.
16. If nerves get to you as the moment of the race gets closer, you may turn to bad habits to steady yourself.
17. Of course, you may have just read the racing form and chosen your horse because of statistics and running styles, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
18. If your horse wins, you get to celebrate!
19. And no matter what, you’re secure in the knowledge that the Kentucky Derby is getting closer by the day, and that each prep race will be to get excited for!
